Description
You write applications for a living, but the database for you represents more of an inconvenience than a resource. You know exactly how to write efficient application code, but whenever your application is slow, it’s the database that’s always to blame.
How can you achieve better performance in the database? How can you write efficient queries? How can you take advantage of indexes, and how exactly do they work? How does the database engine come up with execution plans? How does one read and optimize those plans? Is blocking involved in any way? How do I measure and tune performance?
These are some of the questions that we will answer in this demo-intensive training day, covering the following topics and more:
- Database design considerations
- Writing queries for performance
- Index internals
- Statistics
- Query plan analysis
- Query tuning
- The Query store
- Automatic tuning
- Concurrency and transactions
- Locking, blocking, and deadlocking
- Baselining and monitoring
Pre-requisites
All training materials will be provided on the day of the seminar. Laptops are recommended, if the attendees prefer to try out the demos; however, no device is needed to follow the lectures.
